"The Free Model Foundry Team Sends You Warm Wishes for a Happy New Year"

Dear Readers,

Welcome to our first issue for the new year 2007

We are pleased to announce a special section, "The User Experience Column" as a new feature in our monthly newsletter.

FMF User Experience Column

This month's story comes from Alessandro De Santis, a freelance engineer in Italy. Alessandro writes:

"A complex task like interfacing to a MMC or SD card cannot be carried on all at once. Components have to be developed, tested and then connected together.

When my VHDL SPI component was ready I did some research to see what simulation model was available on the net. I was pretty disapponted when I discovered that currently the subject has not already caught the interest it should.

Though major components manufacturers provide their models often their use is restricted to a single simulator and this is mainly because they need to protect their code by encryption.

Free Model Foundry is the only source of models I found that gives the matter the importance it has. I could quickly find a suitable model and easily drop it into my project. Though I found a minor bug, it was quickly fixed by FMF in a single day. When I updated the project it only took a click to recompile and see that everything was alright."

Do you have an experience with board or system level verification you would like to share? If so, please send it to the email address at the bottom of this page.

2006: Year in Review

2006 was a busy year. We posted 394 model updates on the website. More than 46,000 people/companies logged on to the site and viewed or downloaded over 600,000 files. We remodeled the FMF website adding a blog in the process. We also opened a new website, Model Foundry Services to better serve the IC vendor community. We expect 2007 to be even busier.

The following is a list of 54 updates to the Free Model Foundry website for the month of December 2006.

Please note we are continuing to add Verilog models to the library.

There are now models and timing files covering over 10,250 part numbers on the FMF website.
